Kate Garraway provides an update on her husband Derek Draper’s condition
Kate Garraway has provided Good Morning Britain viewers with an update on the health of her husband Derek Draper.
Kate was joined by Alastair Campbell on the show, who revealed he knew Derek, having worked with him in the past, according to LancsLive.
Joking on the show, Alastair said, “I know your old man incredibly well. I used to work with him, sometimes against him.”
The couple have previously joked about Alastair and Derek’s competitive history, the topic of conversation turned to Derek’s health.
Explaining the situation, Kate said: “He’s fine, he’s fine. He’s very high and low, we’re definitely not far from the woods.”
But she added that returning home did not signal an improvement in her condition.
Of why he came home, she said: “Not because he was better, no. But being home has meant that we’ve seen some things improve.
“Having the family around, having the kids around has been a stimulus and I think the problem is that you get attached to the positives, which is good because you have to, but it doesn’t. no doubt there are huge challenges ahead. “
Derek, from Chorley, has been ill since March 2020 after contracting Covid-19 and was admitted to an intensive care unit.
It was revealed that Kate was told her husband is unlikely to recover if there is no progress over the next two years.
Derek is currently in need of 24 hour care and has already admitted that he worries he will not be able to continue as the disease is taking its toll on him.
Doctors have warned that even though Derek has gone from the acute phase of the virus to a chronic phase, the 53-year-old is still “very sick” and “at serious risk of dying.”
