Net wins: Panther boys, Windjammer girls advance to playoffs – By staff – Rockland – Camden – Knox – Courier-Gazette
The playoffs began on the tennis courts as five Midcoast high school teams had high hopes of clinching playoff victories on Tuesday, June 1.
The five home teams prevailed that day – which bodes well for the Medomak Valley boys and Camden Hills girls – while the Belfast and Panther girls teams were sent home for the summer.

In Class B North, on the boys’ side, the No. 4 Panthers (10-3) beat the No. 13 Hermon (1-12) 5-0, while the No. 9 Lions (5-8) won are tilted 3-2 to No. 8 Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft (11-3).
The Panthers advance to the quarterfinals, where they will host No.5 Ellsworth (10-3) on Wednesday, June 2 at 4 p.m.
In Class A North, on the girls’ side, the Windjammers No.6 (8-3) won a 5-0 victory over No.11 from Oxford Hills south of Paris (1-12). Camden Hills advance to the quarter-finals, where they face 3rd Hampden Academy (9-3) on Thursday, June 3 at 3:30 p.m.
In class B North, on the girls’ side, No.12 Belfast (4-9) fell 4-1 against No.5 Ellsworth (11-2), while No.14 Medomak Valley (2-11 ) lost 5-0 to Caribou No. 3 (12-0).
Additionally, for the boys in Class A North, Camden Hills (11-0) will host No.6 Skowhegan (8-5) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, June 2 at 4 p.m.

At Waldoboro on June 1, the Panthers did a quick job on the Hawks and advanced to the quarterfinals.
The individual results, with the Medomak Valley players listed first, were as follows: In singles, Coleman Swain defeated Pat Verrill, 6-0, 6-1; Isaac Swain defeated Cooper Jensen, 6-1, 6-2; and Zach Cheesman defeated Corbin Hamm, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Ian Doughty and Zan Nguyen beat Chase Flanders and Cody Butler, 6-0, 6-0; and Noah Ludwig and Jack Duncan defeated Nick Peterson and Ethan Hallett, 6-0, 6-0.
No. 8 Foxcroft Academy 3, No. 9 Belfast 2
At Dover-Foxcroft on June 1, the Ponies did just enough to advance to the next round of the playoffs with a victory over the Lions.
The individual results, with the Belfast players listed first, were: in singles, Kyle Agbuya lost to Caleb Fockens, 1-6, 0-6; Ethan Hall lost to Lucas Ronco, 2-6, 4-6; and Daniel Snyder defeated Karen Bekmez, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Steven Friel and Zubar Yacoe defeated Josh Cornett and Caleb Crocker, 6-1, 6-1; and Eli Slaughter and Zeke Slaughter lost to Andres Gutierrez and Lorenzo D’Andrea, 1-6, 3-6.
No. 6 Camden Hills 5, No. 11 Oxford Hills 0
At Rockport on June 1, the Windjammers overtook the Vikings and advanced to the quarterfinals.
The individual results, with the Camden Hills players listed first, were: In singles, Kat O’Brien defeated Yuping Wen, 6-0, 6-0; Eliza Nickelson defeated Sydney Youngs, 6-0, 6-2; and Hannah Fiske defeated Megan Mitchell, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles, Julia Russell and Mila Bonometti defeated Page Temple and Kate MacDonald, 6-0, 6-1; and Ilanna Lam and Amelia Wold won by forfeit on Oxford Hills.
No.5 Ellsworth 4, No.12 Belfast 1
At Ellsworth on June 1, the Eagles rose to the challenge and passed the lower-ranked Lions.
The individual results, with the Belfast players listed first, were: in singles, Madison Farris defeated Bailey Clarke, 6-2, 6-1; Jasmine Cunningham lost to Sierra Andrews, 2-6, 0-6; and Ada Curry lost to Megan Jordan, 1-6, 1-6.
In doubles, Josie Cowles and Taylor Lemon lost to Jocelyn Boudreau and Grace Gumpp, 5-7, 0-6; and Sarah Cournoyer and Liana Gobin lost to Kahlan Keene and Briana Kane, 1-6, 1-6.
No. 3 Caribou 5, No. 14 Medomak Valley 0
At Caribou on June 1, the Panthers traveled nearly 500 miles round trip to pull themselves up at close range against the talented Vikings.
The individual results, with the Medomak Valley players listed first, were as follows: In singles, Elle Ashmore lost to Sage Dubay, 2-6, 3-6; Lizzi Swan lost to Liria Bouchard, 0-6, 1-6; and Medomak Valley lost by forfeit in the third single.
In doubles, Gabby Sawyer and Ana Underhill lost to Mia Theriault and Naomi Côté, 0-6, 1-6; and Hadley Angell and Micaela Lorentzen lost to Jayden Fournier and Kallee Parent, 2-6, 4-6.
